This was the 98th Rosebery Day, as the new ‘Rosebery School’ was officially opened on 7 May 1927, coinciding with Lord Rosebery’s birthday, by the Lady Mayoress of London - marking the birth of Rosebery School.
The new White Horse drive site was built on land donated to the local authority by Lord Rosebery to construct the new school, to expand the capacity to educate girls in the local area. The primrose flower logo used by Rosebery School is also a direct reference to the 5th Earl of Rosebery, Archibald Philip Primrose, whose family name is "Primrose".
You can find out more about the history of Rosebery, as we prepare to mark the centenary of the creation of the ‘new’ Rosebery School in 1927 by clicking here.
Aside from the naming of Rosebery Park, and several Rosebery Roads in the local area you may also be aware that Rosebery House at Epsom College was also named after the former Home Secretary, Prime Minister, and winner of the Epsom Derby! You may wish to read more about him here or indeed enjoy doing you own research!
Elsewhere this week, good luck to Year 11 students who have now started their GCSEs, and we bid farewell to our Year 13 Class of 2025, who had their final lessons today, ahead of their A Level examinations starting next week – for many it’s the beginning of the end of an emotional but joyous 7 year Rosebery journey – BEST OF LUCK GIRLS!
Next week is a busy one for Year 10 students, with Geography field work taking place at the River Tillingbourne and I know colleagues were incredibly impressed with the students throughout the GCSE & Mock Exam preparation day that took place on Thursday. As this cohort take over as the oldest students in kilts, we look forward to them rising to the challenges in front of them, and also look forward to meeting Year 10 families at Parents’ Evening on Thursday.
